Specimen collection and notes

Lithotheca

Lithotheca maintains a private working catalog of rock and mineral specimens used for study, comparison, and collection documentation.

Cataloging goals

Maintaining useful specimen records

Specimen records

Keep mineral identification, locality details, dimensions, matrix, condition notes, labels, and photographs together.

Reference notes

Preserve observations about crystal habit, associations, luster, fluorescence, and other observable features.

Collection context

Attach provenance, cabinet placement, accession-style numbers, and related references to the specimen record.

Purpose

A working reference collection

Rock and mineral collections are most useful when observations stay attached to specimens. Lithotheca exists to keep those records orderly, searchable, and available for continued study.

This is a private cataloging project.
